Autoprop H5 Repair [Series III – Tab Screw]

The H5 Autoprop has been designed to give many years of trouble free use. The current bearing system should give 700 engine hours before replacement. Kits are available to replace all the internal parts, however the bearing tracks do wear. Careful adherence to the yearly service of greasing and replacing bearings / seals when recommended will give the Autoprop a tremendous lifespan when compared to other sailboat propellers. However eventually the tracks do start to deteriorate and need some corrective action. There are several repair options available, depending on the severity of the wear. Initially a bearing replacement will be sufficient. As the tracks wear small indentations come from the ball bearings, known as burnishing. These can be burnished out at service (Level 3) returning the propeller bearings to the factory specification. As the propeller ages the indentations cannot be burnished and the tracks need to be re-machined. This is part of the life of the propeller and can be performed by the factory (Level 4), again returning the propeller to factory specification.
